1- The past couple of class periods we
have been talking about online dating and how it compares to face-to-face
dating. There are many differences between online dating and ftf dating; some
are good and some are bad. People who date ftf usually have more trust in one
another rather than people who go online that have trust issues. Ftf dating is
good for picking up on each other’s cues, the more social the cues the warmer
the setting. When people go online it is a leap of faith, but a 2002 study said
that 50 percent of people who meet online end up meeting ftf as well. 22
percent of people that met online are either married, engaged, or living
together. Some positives that come from online dating is the enclosure you get
compared to ftf. People online are more likely to share deep stuff than they
would ftf. This allows for another to get to know each other well before
meeting ftf and develops a strong bond between them. It is key in building a
relationship to email each other and chat for a while to build that bond; 94
percent of people met with each other again.
In
lab on Friday we watched a couple of clips on how people interacted and met online. Some people met each other and 3 months later
they were married, others had trouble finding that special someone but
eventually found them. I found the video very interesting and looked into online
dating a little more. I found that Match.com was the first online dating site
invented in 1995. 7 years later match.com had 25 million users. Today the
variety of online dating sites has increased and so has the amount of people.
As of 2014 the 5 best dating websites are as follows; Zoosk, Match, OurTime,
eHarmony, and PlentyofFish. Out of the 54 million single people in the US 42
million use online dating sites. That’s twice as many as the study in 2002 but
that was worldwide and this is just the US. Dating websites used to just be
based on likes and dislikes of one another, now they are stricter and oriented
toward matching more common people. I think online dating is good and should
continue to grow and match up the people that are best suited for each other.

2- We
also talked about groups and how they interact with one another. A group is a
bunch of people who have common interests and realize you are part of a group. I
am focusing on the ftf portion of groups. Ftf group’s share physical setting,
are synchronous, and members are visible.
For example, I am in Army ROTC, this is a group of people. When
referring to the Communication Networks the army has all 3. Centralized is like
a squad leader telling his squad important information, chained is like the
passing of information from the Battalion Commander to company commander to
platoon leader to squad leader, and decentralized is like all the other squad
members interacting with one another. We all share some type of common goal, we
are always communication with one another, and we are always interacting with
each other whether it at pt, or lab, or in the classroom. Not to mention that
we are not just a group within ROTC but a group outside of it as well. Whether
we know it or the public knows it or not, we will always be linked as brothers
and sisters and I believe that is the strongest type of group there is. When
referring to the communication networks army has all of them.
