Hyperpersonal Communications

Personally I can see both the negatives and positives about chat rooms and hypersonal communications. Exposing yourself online can make you friends around the world or help you keep in contact with long lost friends. It can make time and distant completely irrelevant. However, there are always ways this idea of creating an online life that comes with risks.
Your hypersonal image is how you portray yourself online. It's an image you create for the world to see, if you can't handle it well-it'll come back to haunt you. For instant theres Facebook, starting off as something strictly for college students is now one of the biggest social media forms and everyone seems to have one. I remember once my family members such as aunts, uncles, my mom, grandmother got a Facebook I immediately made sure everything on my timeline was "family appropriate." There also is the job/college consideration when handling your social media. If you post something inappropriate, they can find it and it'll most likely be online much longer then you think it will be.
When talking about the specific message, we mentioned how depending on the receiver and channel we tend to alter the message, I completely agree. Going back to family on Facebook, I would never send the same message I would my aunt as I would my best friend. I also would make sure to keep certain messages private where family members or employers wouldn't be able to see the context if not deemed family or work appropriate.
Another place you tend to see varied messages are chatrooms. Depending on the purpose of the chatroom, messages can be very different. The same type of messages you see on a dating website will not be similar to the ones you would see on a chatroom that for book clubs or a band's fan websites. Some chatrooms are known for being trouble and can get people, typically young teenagers or young adults, in trouble. These websites thankfully are made aware to the public. Chatrooms can be a great tool if you know which ones to avoid and how to handle yourself properly. For example, you are taught that you should never give out personal information such as an address, social security number, or anything else that can put you in harm. The sender should always be aware of what exactly they are putting out there in the virtual world.
We live in a world full of chatrooms and ways to communicate online. The fact is hypersonal communication has become a primary form of talking. It takes away the barriers that location and distance once did. Now people are exposed to millions of new people they would never of been able to meet without the internet and are capable of keeping in touch with old friends much easier due to this technology.
I think since we live in such a busy, fast-pace time it made us a generation more adapted to hypersonal  communication. Although we may still favor FtF, hypersonal just comes naturally to us. It's as if we are making new friends and showing off our lives even when we are away.
