One topic that was mentioned in class today when we had the discussion was sexting. Sexting normally is the most common among young adults and teenagers. Researchers are coming to the conclusion that it is becoming normal" for teenagers and the development of their sexuality. Sexting has shown that it does increase the amount of sexual activity. This is becoming increasingly more known and done by teenagers leaving researchers to study the effects of and reasons to what will happen.
In a research done by the University of Texas, researchers asked kids over the spand of one year. In their research they had found out that the odds of people in high school were slightly higher for youth who sent a sext or picture of themselves than people who normally would not do that. of course kids who engage in the act for fun or pressure ended up being more involved at an earlier age. Although sexting did not link them to engaging in risky sexual behavior just more of being involved with it.
Another part of the research that was found was that on the use and asking of nudes to be sent. There was a difference in that finding. They had found that sending a sext or a nude picture to someone was important in the reaction and sexual behavior they were trying to commit in opposed to someone asking for one or being asked for one. Sending nudes allows a person to be open and comfortable with sexual activity and promotes beliefs that sex would or can be involved thus increasing this thought and action(s) to occur.
With this research done and the findings on the thoughts and knowledge on sexting is that it does open doors for some people and for others causes problems in pre-mature actions of sexual activity. What i di learn is that by default is is true that people who are willing to engage in such acts and continue are more likely to progress faster than children who don't. Yes it is a scary and confusing thing for a child especially dealing with kind of topic and does raise awareness to others and parents as to what is really going on because there is really no way to find out what was sent except for the receiver. So this can pose problems for kids and confidence and awareness on the subject of sexting.
