Technology changing World
Technology has and still is
changing the world we live in today. In the past couple hundred years we have
made some big advances in all parts of technology. One in particular is the
invention of the internet. From the end of the 1950s until about the end of the
1980s we were constructing something that would let people surf online. In 1989
the World Wide Web was invented. This opened opportunities to people they never
had before. Instead of going to the library to do research they could just look
it up on the internet.
During the 1990s there was an exponential growth of the
internet, the first web browser was created. From there on out the internet
expanded rapidly to what we know of the internet today. In today’s world
something we didn’t have 30 years prior is CMC also known as computer mediated
communication. This allows for one to communicate with others through media
sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, ect. The internet and computer
mediated communication are influenced by channel type, participants, nature of
relationships, topic/purpose, public vs private, and attitude.
The attributes of the
internet are important something else that’s just as important in understanding
all aspects of the internet are the qualities. The one quality I wanted to
focus on is multimedia. With multimedia on the internet people have been able
to now communicate in ways we never thought could be possible. Through
multimedia people can access Facebook, Twitter, and communicate with someone
from one side of the world to the other instantaneously. Multimedia has made computer
mediated communication much easier. Progression like this will continue to
happen twenty years from now and twenty years from now we could be even more
technologically advanced.
Being technologically
advanced can and is a good thing in our society today but it could also be a
bad thing. Around the world the amount of hours spent on the internet using
multimedia has risen drastically in the past couple of years. Media in this way
is causing people to become obsessed therefore sitting on the couch all day and
not getting the daily amount of exercise they need to stay healthy. Computer
mediated communication can be one reason why this generation is so lazy and
have obese levels higher than ever before.
A question to ponder on is,
is multimedia on the internet and computer mediated communication such a good
idea and should it keep being advanced and easier and easier for people to
use? Who knows, thirty years from now
everything in a person’s life could be done through using the internet. It’s
impossible to slow down the growing of technology but if there was a way to
control it that would be the best outcome. If it were up to me I would try and
control the production of any more computer mediated communication devices and
I would focus on keeping us healthy. I would also focus on making advances in
technology that need to be done not
because people want them to be done.
